    Kan en smart robot hjelpe bygg eller industrier å bruke strømmen klokere? 

     

    Hvordan kan en robot hjelpe til med å løse strømkrisa – og spare penger samtidig? Forskningsprosjektet ROBOFlex tar i bruk kunstig intelligens for å gjøre bygg mer fleksible og energismarte. 

    I dag står strømnettet vårt overfor store kapasitetsutfordringer. Mange steder er det allerede begrensninger på hvor mye strøm som kan brukes – særlig i tettbygde områder med rask utvikling. Løsningen har ofte vært å bygge ut nettet, noe som er både tidkrevende og kostbart. 

    Fra utfordring til mulighet 

    ROBOFlex-prosjektet angriper problemet fra en annen vinkel. I stedet for å bruke mer ressurser på å bygge ut, skal prosjektet utvikle en smart robot som bruker kunstig intelligens for å optimalisere energiforbruket i bygg.  

    På den måten kan bygninger tilpasse strømbruken sin og bli mer fleksible – noe som bidrar til å avlaste strømnettet når det trengs som mest. 

    – ROBOFlex adresserer utfordringen med begrenset nettkapasitet i strømforsyningen. Ved å gjøre det enklere for byggeiere å delta i fleksibilitetsmarkeder, kan teknologien bidra til bedre utnyttelse av eksisterende strømnett og redusere behovet for kostbare nettutbygginger, sier prosjektleder Susann Eriksen fra WattScout Solutions AS. 

    Kjernen i prosjektet er utviklingen av en AI-drevet handelsrobot som kan delta i fleksibilitetsmarkeder for elektrisitet. Disse markedene, som stadig blir mer tilgjengelige for nye aktører, gjør det mulig for bygg å «selge» fleksibiliteten sin – altså evnen til å redusere eller flytte strømforbruket til tidspunkter der det er mindre belastning på nettet. 

    Roboten som handler på vegne av bygget 

    – Roboten vil optimalisere energiforbruket i bygg ved å identifisere og styre fleksible laster, slik at energien brukes når det er mest kostnadseffektivt og gunstig for strømnettet. Et konkret eksempel er at roboten kan justere oppvarming, ventilasjon eller lagring av energi for å balansere etterspørsel og pris, noe som både reduserer kostnader for byggeiere og avlaster energisystemet, forklarer Eriksen. 

    Målet er at bygget skal bruke strøm når det er billig og tilgjengelig, og redusere forbruket når etterspørselen – og prisen – er høy. 

    Dette gjelder ikke bare næringsbygg. ROBOFlex skal også teste teknologien i offentlige tjenester, som skoler, sykehus og kommunale bygg. På sikt kan dette bety lavere driftskostnader og bedre utnyttelse av energi i hele velferdssamfunnet. 

    Samarbeidsprosjekt med bred forankring 

    Forskningsprosjektet er finansiert av RFF (Regionale forskningsfond) Viken, og gjennomføres i samarbeid mellom WattScout Solutions AS, Norges Miljø- og Biovitenskapelige Universitet (NMBU) og Smart Innovation Norway AS.  

    Samarbeidet mellom næringsliv, forskning og offentlig sektor gjør det mulig å utvikle, teste og ta i bruk teknologien i virkelige bygg – raskere og mer treffsikkert. 

    – Det er viktig å samle aktører fra næringsliv, akademia og offentlig sektor for å sikre både teknologisk utvikling, forskningsbasert kunnskap og praktisk implementering av løsningen i samfunnet, påpeker prosjektlederen. 

     

    Liten robot, store ambisjoner 

    Selv om ROBOFlex er et mindre prosjekt, kan det få store ringvirkninger. Teknologien viser seg å fungere godt i praksis, og vil rulles ut i større skala – og være med på å endre hvordan vi tenker på energibruk i bygg. 

    – Om fem år håper vi at ROBOFlex har bidratt til økt bruk av energifleksibilitet i bygg, redusert energikostnader for eiendomsbesittere, og hjulpet nettselskapene med å håndtere kapasitetsutfordringer mer effektivt, røper Prosjektleder Susann Eriksen. Hun legger til: 

    – Vi håper også at prosjektet har inspirert andre til å ta i bruk AI-teknologi i energibransjen.
